I don't know how to make one post private, so it was just easier to remove it.

Learned another lesson too. Just because people are friendly to you doesn't mean they like you. Sooner or later you will find out. Probably learned that sometime ago but just forgot it.

My pool days must be spent walking in silence so I don't offend. And to think I'm the only one that is paying to be silent.

Chan cat is still running on the old time. All he does now is eat and sleep and make sure I don't get my sleep. I guess as a cat ages their belly becomes like a new born.

Monday, November 02, 2009

This weekend I spent some time in PSP and posting in groups. Such as this tag which was a challenge for the color 'lilac'.

I thought for a few minutes looking at others work about the word lilac. How long has it been since last used to define a color ? I hear lavender more in use.

It is one of my favorite pastel shades. I wonder is pastel in the fashion world now? I wouldn't know as I don't clothes shop. I had the audacity to wear my tattered jeans a week ago when I visited my primary doc.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, it was chilly and raining that day and taking my shoes off to put on a pair of slacks just wasn't in my interest then.

I don't shop because they don't seem to make clothes that fit my strange shape. I have shoulders that used to look great in a peasent off the shoulder blouse. I could probably still wear such if you didn't mind seeing old dried out stretched out skin. Why didn't I realize as you age your skin no longer seems to fit?

With weight gain I no longer have a waist, but most stuff I try on is short waisted as it is. I have long legs, even though I'm losing height, so the short inseams of today are a problem for me.

But I have to tell you something funny. Before I went home in May I purchased 2 pair of black slacks. The material I think is a polyester blend, not something that would keep you warm in a cold PA climate. I wanted something to wear to church while there. I wasn't pleased one pair had no pockets but little selection choice was available.

So yesterday as I dressed for church I noticed pockets on the inside. Where was the opening? I found one only a finger could go in. When I came home, off came the pants, light turned up high and I discovered some one in China, for some reason had stitched the pockets closed! Out came my stitch ripper and since my eyes aren't so good I slowly removed those stitches. Now I have 2 nice pockets. The mystery remains.

I think I shall go make a cup of decaf and explain to Chandler it is no longer daylight saving time so it isn't time to eat. btw next time I have to change clocks I will wear my watch from room to room so the clocks should all be the same time. We were late to church yesterday, partly because I fell asleep in the recliner, partly because clocks didn't agree. Now that leaves the vehicles to be changed. The PT you have to use a pencil or pen point. Why can't they make a larger button?

Thursday, October 29, 2009

I got where I couldn't even stand to come here because I disliked my header so much. So I thought I'd use some graphics I purchased. I don't know if I will be getting any more of their things. They are huge, would make nice things to use for a scrapbook project but they seem to lose a bit once reduced.

Today was pool day and I decided it would be a good idea to let them know that I have been put on a new diabetic medicine. Combined with two extended release I'm on my blood sugar could of dropped rather drastically. That happened when I was in PA this year. In a grocery store, so shaky I couldn't test my sugar. Lucky my nurse sister was with me.

I carry glucose tablets with me all the time but today I carried my meter with me in case I needed it. When I got out of the pool and in the locker I thought out of curiosity I would check. Some say check before exercise and after but I don't do that. I went from a fasting 157 when I got up this morning to 118 when I got out of the pool. That's good.

The pool staff appreciated my telling them before something happened.

I hope this works now for a long time. I just went on Glipizide Extended Release in May before I got to PA. Kept me down for awhile and then wham!

I found out the new medicine I'm on they gave my husband on his last visit. Afraid we may face insulin if we don't stop having muscles and liver dumping sugar. Well maybe we should cut eating out too.

As the weather cools I will be walking the days I'm not in the pool. Maybe some day I will increase how far I can go, but I think increasing speed would be more important.

BTW thanks to those of you who still pop in.

edit: Re-read about Januvia. Some how missed seeing it is "unlikely to cause your blood sugar to be lowered to a dangerous level because it does not work when your blood sugar is low". So I didn't need to take those precautions!

Sunday, October 25, 2009

Do not miss this older couple! Here. Try and wipe the smile off your face. I had need to send a picture of Pookie with his new perch to son. Walla!

I set him on that side so he can learn to climb over that square post and come down the perches. He was very unsure and when the green perch was at top he didn't seem to see it. Personally I wish they would leave the wood natural color. Birds react to colors.

I could not find a play place like the one he ate most of the posts on.

Today I won't be working with him on his perch because I stressed him enough to take him for a wing clip. Hang on a minute, I forgot to tell son what she told me about the disease he was afraid my birds might be carrying.

His breeder said mine could be harboring it while not having it. My vet disagrees and question why the breeder was overly concerned. She suspects he has had a run in with it at some time.

So if he comes for Thanksgiving I suppose poor Kahinah will be caged at home all day.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

I love pumpkin patches! So colorful. Our new church has had one for years to raise funds for projects. Apparently popular and profitable.

For the first time I bought a small pumpkin to cut up for feeding my house parrots. Then I looked in my Betty Crocker Cookbook and saw I could boil the pumpkin like potatoes, skin it and mash it. OK I was game. I liked it. Today for lunch I sauted some tomato, zucchini and at the last tossed in some pumpkin. Seasoned it and sat back and enjoyed it. I am the only one at this house that likes squash.

I had never seen a white pumpkin or varigated ones until going to the patch. I put pictures of those up on Flickr. Maybe someone will enjoy the sea or orange.

I feel a nap coming on. Chan had me awake at 3 a.m. and up at 4 a.m. Again! Go browse my pictures, probably more interesting than anything I could put here today.

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

I thought I'd link you to the page on Ag termites. “Unlike subterranean termites, which usually feed on dead wood, these termites prefer live forbs, weeds and grasses,” Keck said. “They eat soft plant tissue, and in urban settings they feed almost exclusively on grasses.”

I do not want them feeding on the remaining grass that chinch bugs have not killed, and they seem to be doing that. Plus it was time to re-spray chinch bugs. What we buy over the counter doesn't seem as effective.

Next will come a more expensive visit to try and wipe out the zillions of weeds that enjoy the drought conditions with rains that follow. I have come to the conclusion to have grass in TX it is expensive! I would give anything to have son re-design our yard to be more drought friendly in the back. That is where our largest areas are. Front yard is what we call 'postage stamp'.

The yard was sprayed today for the bugs and rain is in forecast after midnight tomorrow. The tech said it would be OK by then.

Today was pool day. I was alone in the walking lane. That's quite alright as I didn't feel too social, unusual for me, but I still am having pain in my back. Refusing 'drugs' today.

After lunch I did some online research and had to walk to the library to vote as the pest control truck was blocking our driveway. That's OK I just decided it is time to 'suck it up' and enjoy the fresh air and ignore the ache. Tonight hubby said we can go to Acadiana for my favorite chicken and dumplings. Or talapia if I wish. We went no where on our anniversary. I don't think he felt good.

Friend and I talking today. Kind of tickled me to here she and her husband don't jive with the politics and to keep peace she refuses to talk about politics and reminds him everything that comes through email is not necessairly accurate.

Uh oh sounds like a fight outside.

Saturday, October 17, 2009

This morning after breakfast I headed out to Slick Park. Looking in my folders I haven't been there since Dec.

I figured with the draught the water would be all gone and only a smidgen since the rains this month. Not so, see.

That little island in the middle used to be covered, in fact few rock was seen on the opposite side too.

People were there today with fishing poles. I asked the young kid what he had caught. Nothing. Good thing as I saw nothing for him to put it in. Though I know some fish there and toss them back anyway.

Once home I decided to snap a view of the front yard. People like the Queen's Wreath growing on top of the Wisteria. I know the bee's do too so I didn't move in for a close up.

Probably should of so I could tell the Univ. folk doing bee study what I did find. Oh wait they wanted me to count bees on the sunflowers that didn't grow again.

It is this front piece I planted the Rose Mallow son bought for my birthday. He thought the oak would give the bed some shade but only the arch does right now.
Come colder weather I will have to pull all the Queen's wreath off. Just like up at the corner of the house the
Firebush will die back. It is easy for me to gather the Firebush until it gets close to the ground. You can break it right off.

The rains have caused a smudgy look to the leaves right now. It also has under the leaves some nusiance tiny larvae of some kind. Not going to spray the bush though in case hummingbirds are still going to flowers. Plus the butterflies are.

Yesterday the pest control company came out and identified what I thought were termites in the grass. (we've had them before). It is agriculture termites, no worry to house he said. (as did previous company). Of course the grass roots are being eaten. So next week I'll have them come spray for that. When grass goes dormant I'll have weeds sprayed. Right now the back yard looks green from a distance because of weeds. What we buy and apply isn't going to help. Chinch spray I don't think did, though we were probably too late applying it.

Think I'll go have Wil put my lawn chair up in the yard and I'll go read. Wonder if the flies would leave me alone?
