Check this excitement for me yesterday. Towards evening I heard him/her in our back yard. Took awhile to spot it way up in the pistache tree. And I mean way up!

While I doubted the rain they were forcasting was going to show up I figured birdie needed to be in a safer place. I got a towel and laid it on the tree. I got seed in a cup and rattled it. He/she just kept crying and walking from little branch way up there to another.

Off I went for the garden hose. Figured Chan would leave my feet then and he did. Tried to just move bird down the limb but he got wet and flew down past me into the chain link fence. I grabbed the towel and wrapped him before pulling him gently out. His head was through but it came right back out. He bit me as his head wasn't covered. I turned him to my chest and talked to him all the way into the garage.

When Max died we gave his big cage to Wild Animal Orphanage. This cage is way too small so maybe when I find a bigger one I can return it to Pets Mart. I made an appt. with the avian vet for this afternoon for a health check and wing clip. He is currently in this office until I get a clearance to park him/her in the birds room. This bird is quite talkative and I mean chirps. He/she has no leg band, which breeders generally do. Pookie heard it first.

If I thought it could go in Buster's cage safely that would be a nice choice. Buster has a big cage.

Oh Wil was not crazy about keeping him but I sense he is going to let me keep it. Looks just like Max.

Update: it is a HE about 5 yrs. old and I am calling him Buddy. He has not been handled and bit the vet's helper who wasn't fast enough trimming wings.

A "free" bird...still, the cage and vet aren't cheap.  How wonderful that you were able to catch it before some hawk made lunch from it.  Best Wishes, ~ Sil

You picked a good name for your new feathered friend.  How lucky that this bird landed in your yard, up in one of your trees. How's that saying go, things happen for a  reason. Lets face it, how many people on your street know anything about these types of birds? He found the perfect back yard and the perfect mama to raise him...smile

Hope to see lots of pictures of Buddy.

That is so neat, Bonnie.    Good luck with Buddy.   I'm pretty sure that pretty soon he'll feel like you are his buddy too.
