(click to enlarge) This we were told is an example of the trees purchased in the tree project. They are all over the area, but no one knows which is your tribute tree. The plaque with the 30 donors plates hangs in the gallery. Almost an inconspicuous place in my opinion. It is a huge place, weddings held in here. All the displays that should of been operating apparently weren't plugged in or however it is they respond to pushed buttons. I guess that is good or I would of spent a lot of time reading. We arrived there by 9 a.m. but so did the humidity so it didn't take long to wear you out. Daughter and husband sat while I walked snapping about 100 pictures. (Some are on Flickr)
We popped into the little store of course, skipped the cafe as we figured a water fountain would be the cheaper drink. I wanted some coasters as the ones I've had for years had started to peel from the cork. They didn't have a lot of selection as they used the same artist. 40% off was nice though. Daughter gave me some little lovely note type thing with scroll work. One of these days I'll remember to photograph them.
This is the tower called The San Antonio Tower as Lady Bird Johnson's friends here paid for it. I didn't realize when I snapped this as it is a cistern, and it isn't just round. When I got to the first, or was it the second level, there was a patio on the side! Complete with table and chairs. There were a lot of steps, I was the only one climbing. I should of had a movie camera as I took so many pictures of the entire Center acreage. I didn't pay for a guide so I had no idea how far out it went.
I even took close ups of the stones. As a lover of stones and rocks this was so interesting. Even though I don't know what kind I suspect some were limestone and I suspect all were native. The wood on the plaque is native pecan. (I thought it funny they stated that on the plaque and what board member made it, but they didn't put the year)
Well Wil is up and soon the birds will be and I still have a blog to read so I best 'git'.

@murisopsis: Packed your hiking shoes. I hope they get the displays fixed in the Gallery. Flowers that should of been blooming weren't when we were there and that happened in Winter when son and I were there. Still a great place.
@BLB: Ah! Sounds like a place to put on my travel list~
@murisopsis: It is in Austin Texas. https://www.wildflower.org/
Where in the world is this place?! I love the idea of donating trees to make a little wooded oasis! So neat that you have 2 trees there!! I'm intrigued by the cistern...
@fauquet: That's true but the trees provide shade and last longer than 10 yrs. (no way can we afford a bench now or 10 yrs. from now)
@BLB: With a bench you can take a rest in sitting down!
@fauquet: We were able to donate 2 trees, one from his sister. I think we got the funds from some of his insurance. This was their 'Tree Tribute' project. I look now at their latest project, no way would I have the $2,000 for a medium tree. I notice to buy a bench the money lasts for 10 yrs. and if you still want it you have to 'renew' it. That is understandable as all their benches are wood.
You were among the 30 donors of trees , Bonnie ?
Is this related with an event?
BTW you were in full shape to climb all of those stairs of the tower !!! And your back ?
Congrats for this and I guess the photoos are beautiful and not common.
Love
Michel
