Goodbye Dear Ray
Last night Wil got the call from his niece that his older brother had died. One of the memories I have of Ray was our stop at their home in Ohio as we were on our way back to Topeka Kansas where Wil was stationed. It was the year Wil's mom had died and the kids and I were already in PA.
It was pretty warm for me when we arrived and the kids and Wil were all asleep. I had had surgery and was in a corset type of garment so I decided to go for a walk. There was no one to talk to, don't remember where Rays wife and kids were.
I walked down the street and eventually into the railroad station where Ray worked. He decided to take me up to a local store for something to drink, then we walked and chatted and ended up in an antique store. He was as interested in all that lay before us in that store. We talked about what things were, what our parent or Grandparent used to use. Back to the railroad station as he logged out to end his work day.
Ray was a gentle man with a sense of humor as was his brother Bill, also gone. Wil has two brothers and one sister left now. We have no word if there is to be a memorial or funeral service but there is no way Wil can travel back. I showed him this picture and he really likes what I did with it. We talked about all the pens in Ray's pocket as Ray was long retired by then.
Rest in peace Ray.
